Episode 9 of NETTVCATHOLIC’s 2013 series Vatican II: Inside the Council looks at Communications, the Council and the Catholic Church.

You can read Inter Mirifica on the Vatican’s website.

The 7th Catholic New Media Conference returned to the Archdiocese of Boston in October, 2013. The opening keynote talk was given by Msgr. Paul Tighe, Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. He shared about important aspects of communication, social media, and Pope Francis.

Fr. Roderick Vonhogen’s introduction begins 3:00 into the video:

As of 5:00 Sunday afternoon about half of the Intro to Mass Communication students have submitted completed information surveys about their Church and New Media projects. The final deadline is Tuesday (November 5).

You might find this word cloud interesting. (A word cloud visually shows how often words are used in a document, etc. The larger the font, the more often that word is used.) Each student is asked to share the title of their project; here’s the word cloud for the titles submitted so far (click it for a larger image):

Among their ministry and evangelistic outreaches, Greg and Jennifer Willits created “That Catholic Show“, a series of videos sharing Catholic teaching in creative new ways. The most recent episode highlights the call to evangelization all Catholics and Christians share.

On Sunday, March 25, 2012, I gave a talk as part of Franciscan University of Steubenville’s Veritas series organized by the Student Life department. During the talk I shared some of the opportunities and some of the risks of today’s communication culture and some of the Catholic Church’s teachings about media and technology. There is so much to consider about the topic that I could only touch on a few important points. For your reference and enjoyment, here are the presentation slides from my talk:

In addition to the slides, I shared several videos during the talk. Here’s a list of them:
